I have the honour to refer to Mr. Malcolm MacDonald's despatch Confidential (2) of 13th November, 1935, 35 transmitting copies of correspondence between the Colonial Office and the War Office, on the subject of the provision of accommodation for British troops in Hong Kong, and to communicate to you details of an agreement which, subject to your approval, I have concluded with His Excellency the General Cofficer Commanding the British Troops in China, China Command,

on the subjects of (a) the Colonial Government's claim to rent for the Sham Shui Po camp site, (b) the War Department's claim in respect of the cost of anti-malarial works (c) the terms of transfer of the Kau Lung Tsai area and (d) user by the public of the Colony of certain roads constructed or improved, or about to be constructed or improved, by the Military Authorities. These roads, or future roads, are clearly shewn on a map which will be delivered to you by safe hand. The agreement does not

of course cover such portions of them as may eventually fall within areas of actual fortification, which it will become necessary to make War Department land and so protect from public trespass.

As was stated in Sir William Peel's despatch

No.7 of 6th January, 1933, the Colonial Government claims rent for the Sham Shui Po camp site at the rate of $125,000 per
